San Francisco is renowned for one weather phenomenon, fog, but you shan’t spend your days shrouded in a mist, it does lift to reveal the beautiful views. That is as much as can be predicted because San Francisco weather is as changeable as the sea that surrounds it.

Climate

The weather is rarely extreme, and there are some seasonal generalisations. March to May usually offers a dry spring. Days in June to August are often shrouded in fog, a combination of the heat rising from the central valley and sea spray but when the fog lifts you can have a bright dry day. Fall, September to November, is the best time of year to visit, days are warm and sunny and nights are mild and clear. Winter, December to February, is often rainy and sometimes brings torrential storms, although days between storms can be pleasantly dry and sunny.

Temperatures seldom rise above 70 degrees F (21degrees centigrade) or fall below 40 degrees F
(5 degrees C). Visitors are most comfortable with a light jacket or coat handy.
